The South Australian Whale Centre is situated on Railway Terrace in Victor Harbor. Our building is an old railway goods shed which is heritage listed. While this is an amazing feature of the Centre it means that installation of an elevator has so far been out of our reach, we are striving to combat this in the future.
To combat this the Whale Centre offers “Limited Access” entry to our main floor at a reduced cost of $5.00 per person. This includes our Southern Right Whale Skull, local Aboriginal dream-time story “Kondoli” the whaleman, Our “under the jetty” exhibit, whale artifacts and whaling history information, touchscreens, videos and more! Our bathrooms are accessible and located on this floor.
The SA Whale Centre offers a range of admission options and offers a discounted concession rate with any valid Government issued concession card.
The SA Whale Centre recognises the national Government issued Companion Card and Carer Australia Card. Free entry is offered for carers accompanying a person with a disability when using one of the approved cards below.
The SA Whale Centre recognises and accepts the below Government Issued Carer & Companion Cards:
- Government issued Carers Australia card for each Australian State
- Government issued Companion Card for each Australian State
- QLD Government Issued Carer Card
- Government issued Foster Carer Card
- SA Department for Education and Child Development
- We Care Victoria Government Carer Card
Service dogs that have been individually trained to work or perform tasks for a guest with a disability are welcome to the SA Whale Centre in accordance with the South Australian State law.
The South Australian Whale Centre offers tours which utilise tactile elements for deaf blind and vision-impaired audiences, in addition many of our displays include audio & visual components for both and touching is encouraged throughout the Centre’s displays.
