The SA Whale Centre offers a range of educational services. These include, guided tours, education programs, school holiday programs and Children’s University accredited activities. All of our programs align with the South Australian Curriculum, tailored to suit varying age groups and experiences. Our aim is to engage as well as educate.

Guided Tours

Our guided education tours have a run time of 30-60 minutes. One of our passionate guides will share intricate details of local whale species and behaviors. Learn about local whaling history and artifacts, and immerse yourself in the world of these gentle giants. Open ended, self guided leisure tours are also available attracting group discounts.

All tour bookings cover entry to 3 floors of interactive and educational exhibits.

Education Programs

With an average run time of 45 minutes to an hour, our unique education programs are delivered in our “Southern Right Room.” A purpose built classroom that caters for groups of up to 30 Children. Each class is tailored to suit different age groups from kindergarten to year 12 and includes hands on activities designed to help children process and retain information. All education programs are in line with the South Australian Curriculum.

All education bookings cover entry to 3 floors of interactive and educational exhibits.

Education Services are available Monday to Friday 10.30am – 5.00pm. 

Tours and Education programs are available outside of regular operating hours at request and for a nominal fee.

School Holiday Programs

Each School Holidays the SA Whale Centre hosts a different school holiday program. These programs are designed to be both informative and fun, offering engaging content and hands on activities to get little ones excited about learning. Most school holidays have fresh and exciting activities centered around different marine creatures such as, Leafy Sea Dragons, Octopuses, Turtles, Giant squid and more. Children joining our school holiday groups in Whale Season (May to September) can expect to learn which whale is which in our annual junior whale spotter program.

Standard Rates for School Holiday Programs are $8.00 per Child and $4.50 per accompanying adult. Children under the age of 4 must have an accompanying parent or guardian. Bookings for our school holiday programs are essential and can be made via Eventbrite or by calling us at 8551 0750.

Children’s University Accredited Activities

The SA Whale Centre is a proud participant of Children’s University, offering 3 accredited activities for students to complete.

The Adventure Trail– A Free booklet that takes approximately an hour to complete. Students will need to explore all 3 floors of the Centre finding the answer to every question to earn an hour in their passport. The Adventure trail helps students learn about different whale species, sharks and other marine creatures. (Please note: Standard SA Whale Centre entry fees still apply.)

The Southern Right Whale Activity Book – At a cost of $2.50 this book is designed to teach students all about our annual visitors the Southern Right Whale. How Big is a whale calf? How much milk do they drink? Where do they live? The answer to all these questions can be found within the SA Whale Centre for those who care to look. The SRW Activity Book will earn students an hour in their passport. (Please note: Standard SA Whale Centre entry fees still apply.)

School Holiday Programs – Each SA Whale Centre School Holiday Program is an accredited activity. Students will earn an hour in their passport for every program completed.
