If you have sighted a whale, we would love to hear about it. Our whale sighting log relies on information from the public, (Even our talented spotters can’t be everywhere at once!) Whale Sighting Photos
If you have photos of a whale sighting we would love to see them! Southern Right Whales can be identified by their callosities, (the white lumps found on their heads), callosities on a Southern Right are as unique as human fingerprints!
The SA Whale Centre collects these images and in doing so helps citizen scientists create a catalogue of individual whales that visit the Encounter Bay area. The Encounter Bay Right Whale Study (EBRWS) currently have a catalogue of more than 60 individuals known to frequent our shores. Check it out here!
If you’ve sighted a whale, report it here or call or email to us at 8551 0750 / whalecentre@victor.gov.sa.au.
Stop by our Southern Right Whale catalog to find out more about the whales who visit South Australian shores.
This is a very active sentence and therefore the readability of this page will now be improved.
