South Australian Whale Centre

Located within the Historic Railway Goods in the heart of Victor Harbor, the South Australian Whale Centre is situated in the basement of the newly opened Victor Harbor Visitor Centre. 

Originally opened in 1994, the South Australian Whale Centre has since evolved and in 2021, it merged with the Visitor Centre. Now a museum, visitors can learn, experience and play in Victor Harbor’s marine hub. 

Offering displays and interactive exhibits, as well as education programs, the South Australian Whale Centre is a must on your next visit to the Fleurieu Peninsula.

The South Australian Whale Centre is owned and operated by the City of Victor Harbor. 

Whats inside?

 Stepping inside, you will be taken on a journey where you will learn about Cetaceans, marine conservation, local animals and the migration of our annual visitors, 

Discover the Wall of Whales, look in awe at the sheer size of our Southern Right Whale Skull and impressive sperm whale vertebrae.  Only discovering these in person will allow you to truly grasp the size of these gentle giants.

Step aboard Sea Shepherd’s Steve Irwin. steer the ships wheel, and experience as the crew takes you to the forefront of their missions to curb illegal activities and whaling. Or dig deep into our archeological dig site to find the hidden treasures below the sand,

Where are we located?

Located in the newly renovated Railway Goods Shed, the Victor Harbor Visitor Centre and South Australian Whale Centre have become the central tourist hub within central Victor Harbor.
